Hello,
The past few days I have been trying to port the KanTeX package for use with Textures (from Blue Sky Research), a popular commercial version of Tex/LaTeX on the Macintosh. I have finally hit paydirt.
It was not straightforward since for Textures, the fonts have to be real Macintosh fonts, and not pk files. Therefore I had to convert the pk and tfm files to font suitcases and TFM Metrics. However, the precompiled pk and tfm files supplied with the KanTex release refused top be converted (probably because they were compiled on Unix?). Anyway, I had to recompile the pk and tfm files using Metafont (which I had never used before).
So, it took me most of last week to overcome the learning curve, and I then spent the weekend building real Macintosh Kannada fonts for Textures. There are still some problems with large fonts, but I have been able to typeset most of the example tex souce files supplied with the package. I have not tested them all. Incidentally, when I tried to typeset the given .tex files in the examples, the font names and commands like \QQQ were not recognized. I tried other TeX programs for the Macintosh like CMacTeX and OzTeX with no luck. Then on a lark, I just copied all the text from the original .tex files and pasted it into a new file which I could then typeset. Don't ask me why. Mebbe the resource forks of the original .tex files are screwed up.
Anyway, if anybody is interested in a Textures version of KanTeX, they can contact me at ujwal@llnl.gov.
Also, a note of commendation to Jagadeesh and you for coming up with KanTeX. Great job guys!!
Incidentally, I am not a Kannadiga myself, though I can read and write Kannada rather slowly. My wife is a Kannadiga, and my efforts were for her benefit.
Finally, this sounds stupid, but how do I post to the mailing list? Is there a specific newsgroup?
