KALE (KAnnada Lipi Enthusiasists) is a group of Kannada Font Enthusiasists, whose principal aim at this point of time is to realize a Kannada TeX so as to be able to typeset documents written in Kannada. This will allow users of the Internet to exchange Kannada documents. Efforts to create Devanagari and Telugu TeX have been successful. Telugu is a sister language of Kannada, and Telugu fonts resemble Kannada fonts closely. KALE has borrowed heavily from the work TeluguTex .

There seems to be some confusion about how these documents were created. They were NOT created by painstakingly (manually) placing the fonts together. We write the document in a particular format and run it through LaTeX. The resulting .dvi file is then converted to postscript and printed. In order to embed kannada documents in my home page, I had to take a slightly circuitous route of converting the PS file to a "gif" file, touching (the colors) it up using xv before putting them up.
